AI is now more accessible than ever before. With one quick search on Google, you can see AI generate art or an AI-powered chatbot. But did you know it can now generate full length essays and articles within seconds?

OpenAI is a rather new company developing AI for the future. They created several text generation bots (including DaVinci-003), to complete text inputs and answer your prompts. Later on, they introduced Dall-E, an image generator, and completion tool. OpenAI also created ChatGPT as shown below. A chatbot that will answer your questions using AI-generated responses and information from the internet. All of their AI resources are free just by creating an OpenAI account. Now with more support from Microsoft, the AI industry is expected to grow in the future.

How does AI work?

AI uses the vast expanse of the internet’s information, to create artwork, text, and now, full-length essays. It creates expansive “neural networks”, which mimic how a brain will think to create unique artwork and text (with the exception of some plagiarism).

Academics

With access to the whole internet, AI can access various academic essays found online. (on various study-help websites and student portfolios). Now, rather than a student personally writing an essay, they can rely on various AI generators on the internet. They will create essays using the writing style and layout of essays online. These generators can write high-school and college-level essays with amazing results.

Look at the essay below. Did a human write it, or did a robot generate it?

Edgar Allan Poe is a renowned figure in American literature. He is considered to be one of the greatest poets of his time, and his works continue to be studied and admired to this day. However, the question of whether Poe should be classified as a poet or a writer is a topic of debate among literary critics.

One argument in favor of Poe being classified as a poet is his exceptional use of language and imagery in his works. Poe’s poetry is characterized by its dark, eerie, and mysterious themes, as well as its use of symbolism and metaphor. His poems, such as “The Raven” and “Annabel Lee,” are masterpieces of the form, and they have had a profound influence on the development of American poetry. Poe’s poetry is also known for its musicality and its ability to create a sense of unease in the reader.

On the other hand, some critics argue that Poe should be classified as a writer rather than a poet. This is because Poe’s works also include short stories, essays, and reviews. Poe’s short stories, such as “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Fall of the House of Usher,” are considered to be some of the greatest examples of the genre. They are known for their psychological depth, their exploration of the human mind, and their ability to create a sense of suspense and unease. Poe’s essays and reviews also demonstrate his literary talent, his critical acumen, and his encyclopedic knowledge of literature.

In conclusion, Edgar Allan Poe is a literary figure of great importance, and his works continue to be studied and admired to this day. Whether he should be classified as a poet or a writer is a topic of debate among literary critics. However, it is clear that Poe’s mastery of language, imagery, and storytelling, as well as his exploration of the human mind and his ability to create a sense of unease, make him one of the greatest literary figures in American history.

If you answered correctly, AI generated this picture perfect essay with articles all over the internet. If needed requirements can be added, including quotes, high-school/college level, etc.

As AI has begun to now write full-length essays, students can quickly write essays with a thesis statement, or brief topic sentence. The AI will then generate full-length essays with just one click.

The only problem with AI-generated essays is the significant plagiarism found throughout the text. After running the above essay through multiple plagiarism checkers, I found at least 10% plagiarism throughout the essay. However, the essays have few grammatical errors and are almost perfectly written.

Articles

Along with essay writing, AI can also now write articles. Companies like CNET have recently started publishing AI-written articles for higher SEO rankings rewarding them with more ad revenue. After CNET was bought by Red Ventures, CNET focused on SEO more than the quality of its content. They try to rank for highly-searched questions like “Can You Buy a Gift Card With a Credit Card?” and “What Happens When You Bounce a Check?”. If the author of a CNET article you are reading is “CNET Money”, then the article you are reading was written by AI.

The Future of AI

AI can be used for good or bad. From writing essays to creating artwork, AI can do just about anything. But what about the future of AI?

Well, Microsoft has recently invested 10 billion dollars into OpenAI, the company that creates ChatGPT as well as Dall-E. If all goes well, Microsoft might buy OpenAI, and the Bing search engine will be powered with the same AI that ChatGPT uses to operate. By March of 2023, AI could power your search results if you use Bing as your internet browser.
