WordPress and Google Sites are both great options for creating websites. Both allow you to build beautiful websites in just a few days. Plus, neither require coding ability. But which one is right for you?
Customization
WordPress and Google Sites are both great for customization. They both allow you to change between themes and fonts with one click. Though Google Sites customization is simple, it has limited options compared to WordPress. WordPress offers over 30,000 themes, while Google Sites has only 8. So, WordPress is much better for customization compared to Google Sites since it has more theme options.
Security
Google Sites overall is a better option when it comes to security. Google Sites gives you free SSL protection with a custom domain. Meanwhile, WordPress does not offer free SSL with custom domains and only offers it for wordpress.com subdomain websites. To continue, WordPress does not have great brute-force security features, unless installing an additional plugin. So, Google Sites wins this debate.
Speed
Google Sites is much faster than WordPress. WordPress ends up loading additional CSS which makes your website slower, while Google Sites uses state-of-the-art technology making your websites extremely quick. So, Google Sites has much better speed than WordPress.
Blogging
Even though Google Sites has better Speed and Security than WordPress, it struggles with blogging. Google does not have any features that allow you to blog with Google Sites. You cannot create posts or articles with Google Sites and can only make “Pages”. Meanwhile, WordPress organizes articles and posts for you, without doing everything by yourself. WordPress is the better option if creating a blogging website.
Adsense
You may think that Google Sites is the better choice when it comes to Adsense but ironically, WordPress ad features are better than Google Sites. Google Sites has no support for Adsense at all, while WordPress lets you put in ads easily. So WordPress is the better choice for ad-dependent websites.
WordPress vs. Google Sites
WordPress Pros:
- Easy customization
- Easy Blogging
- Plugins for additional features
- Adsense Support (Using Sitekit)
WordPress Cons:
- Hard-to-use security features
- Bad Speed
Google Site Pros:
- Simple layouts
- Great text customization
- Great for simple websites
- Great Speed
Google Site Cons:
- No Adsense/Bad Widget Support
- Few customization options
Which is better?
In my opinion, WordPress is the better choice. It offers better blogging options than Google Sites and allows you to monetize your website. It may be slower than Google Sites, but WordPress also has better customization features when compared to Google Sites.
